Pupil Premium

At Appleshaw St Peter’s, we have high aspirations for every child. Our vision is to provide an exceptional educational and environmental foundation that enables all students to flourish, regardless of their background or starting point.

Our Priority: We are committed to ensuring that our disadvantaged pupils make progress in line with their peers. We recognize that these pupils can face additional challenges, and our strategy is designed to build the resilience, skills, and knowledge they need to thrive.

Our Key Objectives:

  • High-Quality Teaching: We know that excellent 'first teaching' is the most powerful tool for closing the attainment gap.

  • Inclusive Support: We aim to provide a fully inclusive education. This includes targeted academic interventions and signposting families to external services to ensure that barriers beyond the classroom are removed.

  • Ready for the Future: We equip our disadvantaged learners with the character and attitudes needed to sustain their learning into secondary school, ensuring they are not just 'prepared' but 'empowered' for the next phase of their education.

Our Approach: We have adopted a tiered approach (Teaching, Targeted Support, and Wider Strategies) to ensure our funding is spent effectively on evidence-based practices that provide the best possible outcomes for our Pupil Premium cohort.

Tier Focus Area Why we do it
Tier 1: High-Quality Teaching Consistent Phonics delivery (ELS) & Staff CPD on Retrieval Practice. Evidence shows that great "first teaching" is the most effective way to close the gap for disadvantaged learners.
Tier 2: Targeted Support Small group Maths/Reading interventions and 1:1 "gap-plugging." Structured, short-term interventions help pupils keep pace with the mixed-age curriculum.
Tier 3: Wider Strategies ELSA (Emotional Literacy), Attendance support, and trip subsidies. We remove non-academic barriers like anxiety and lack of "cultural capital" to ensure children are ready to learn.

Service Premium

As a school with a strong connection to our Armed Forces families, we also receive Service Premium. This is used specifically for pastoral support to ensure the emotional wellbeing of children during times of parental deployment or transition.
