Academic Performance

At Appleshaw St Peter’s CE Primary School, we are committed to achieving high standards of academic excellence. Our small school environment allows for tailored support, resulting in outcomes that consistently sit above national averages.

Sometimes data is suppressed [supp] to protect indicviduals due to the small nature of our cohorts.

Early Years & Phonics Excellence

We are particularly proud of the rapid progress seen in our early years and foundational reading results over the last three years.

  • Year 1 Phonics: In 2025, 87% of our Year 1 pupils met the expected standard in the Phonics Screening Check, a significant increase from 63% in 2023 and well above the 2025 national average of 80%.

  • Good Level of Development (GLD): In 2025, 73% of our Foundation Stage pupils reached a Good Level of Development, surpassing the national average of 68.3%.

Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)

At Appleshaw, we recognise that fluent recall of multiplication facts is a cornerstone of mathematical success. Our pupils continue to show strong commitment in this area, with the 2024 cohort achieving a mean score of 19.23 out of 25. While the 2025 cohort faced a more challenging set of outcomes with a mean score of 15.81, we are immensely proud that nearly one in five of these pupils (18.8%) achieved a perfect score of 25/25. This follows a standout performance in 2023, where our students achieved a mean score of 20.56, significantly exceeding the national average of 20.2 for that year. These results are used as a diagnostic tool to help us provide targeted support, ensuring every child builds the fluency they need for the later stages of their mathematical journey.

Key Stage 2 Progress

The Department for Education has confirmed that it is not possible to calculate primary progress measures for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 academic years. This is because there is no Key Stage 1 baseline data available for these cohorts due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. As such, schools are only required to publish attainment data (test results) for these years.

International Recognition

Education at Appleshaw is about more than just test scores. In September 2025, the school was honored with the British Council’s International School Award. This award recognises our commitment to embedding a global dimension into our curriculum, including our thriving partnership with Primary School No. 15 in Poland.

Ofsted & SIAMS

  • Ofsted: We were graded 'Good' in October 2022. Inspectors noted that "leaders’ expectations are high across a broad range of subjects" and pupils "show genuine care for one another".

  • SIAMS: As a Church of England school, our Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools (SIAMS) confirmed our strong Christian character and its positive impact on the daily lives of our pupils.
