Appleshaw St Peter's

Church of England Primary School

Vision, Ethos and Core Values

We are an outstanding* Church of England School.

SIAMS Report March 2017: "Each of the core values have explicit links to Christian teaching and are closely connected to the school’s rules to have respect, be caring and try your best. The impact of these values, and the extent to which children use them in their everyday lives, is what makes the Christian character outstanding."

Our Terms of Union with the National Society state that: "...the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church at parish and diocesan level. The school aims to serve its community by providing education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice. It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers its pupils."

Through collective worship and reflection time we explore  Christian values and help the children to develop as spiritual individuals able to articulate their own beliefs and understanding. At the core of this are three central Christian values, in the context of pursuing 'excellence as standard', which underpin and inform our work;

We are an inclusive school.

Our shared Christian values allow us to explore many aspects of humanity and to develop an appreciation of the needs of others. We encourage personal responsibility and care of others amongst both staff and pupils.

Our vision for the future is to:

  • Strive towards ‘excellence’ in all we do
  • Further develop the outside areas and provision for outdoor learning with the aim of becoming a model of best practice for the county
  • Build upon our ‘Outstanding’ Church School status to be a model of best practice for Church schools in the diocese
  • Be recognised as an innovative school with an outstanding curriculum and which achieves standards within the top 5% in Hampshire
