Attainment

We have high expectations for all our pupils. We recognise that children learn at different rates and and that there are many factors that affect learning. Through thoughtful curriculum planning, careful classroom planning and regular, ongoing, accurate assessment we aim to ensure that all pupils achieve as highly as they can.

The national curriculum tests are designed to assess children’s knowledge and understanding of specific elements of the key stage 2 programmes of study. They provide a snapshot of a child’s attainment at the end of the key stage. Further information about the tests is available on the DfE’s website at www.education.gov.uk/ks2.

Pupils at Appleshaw took the following tests:

·      English reading

·      English grammar, spelling and punctuation

·       mathematics

There is no set writing test. Writing is assessed using teacher assessment and county-wide moderation.

Prior to 2016, children were awarded a 'level' at the end of Key Stage 1 and 2. Level 4 was the expected level of attainment for pupils at the end of KS2. Pupils achieving level 5 were attaining above expectations and those at level 6 well beyond expectations.

Our results for 2015 showing the percentage at each level:

Subject Level 3 Level 4 Level 5 Level 6
Reading   36% 64%
Writing 18% 54% 46% 9%
Grammar/Spelling 9% 27 64%
Mathematics   28% 54% 18%

We are very proud of the results our pupils achieved. Many of the pupils achieving level 5 did so at the top of the level and so have achieved highly.
